$23.3 Million Award against New York Hospital in Medical Malpractice Lawsuit Comes on Heels of $120 Million Medical Malpractice Lawsuit Against Same Hospital

News of the $23.3 million jury award to the surviving family members of a New York man who died due to his doctors’ and nurses’ medical malpractice spread across New York and the rest of the country earlier this month, and is a reminder of an earlier medical malpractice case against the same hospital that ended in a stunning jury award. According to local news reports, News12 Westchester, the prior November, 2023, $120 million jury award against Westchester Medical Center was the “largest award ever” to be handed down in a medical malpractice case in Westchester County.

The November, 2023, case first began when 41-year-old William Lee, of Elmsford, New York, suffered from a stroke in November, 2018. Mr. Lee’s medical malpractice lawsuit alleged that his doctors at Westchester Medical Center failed to “timely diagnose and treat Lee”, which later resulted in severe brain damage. Mr. Lee is now unable to independently care for himself, and he will need care for the rest of his life. Mr. Lee now resides at a residential brain injury treatment center, and will be required to live there with around-the-clock care indefinitely. Accordingly, Mr. Lee is no longer able to work or support his family.
