New York City Hit and Run Lawyer
Hit and run is a violation of most state motor vehicle laws and New York is no exception. A driver of any vehicle involved in an accident resulting in any contact with another vehicle or person is required to immediately stop at the scene of the accident and fulfill the requirements of the state law.
New York State law states that any driver involved in any accident shall give their name, address, name and current addresses of any injured persons in either vehicle or outside the vehicle that may have been injured as a result of the accident to other involved parties. The driver must also render any reasonable assistance and aid to any injured persons.

The driver of the vehicle who is involved in an accident resulting in damage to property shall stop the vehicle at the nearest location that would not impede traffic or otherwise jeopardize the safety of other motorists. Hit and run is generally defined as an individual who gets into an accident (crash) or causes property damage and does not stop but rather flees the scene of the accident. Many hit and run cases are generally not considered intentional, but are usually due to circumstances beyond the driver’s control, such as being unable to stop at a safe location.
