Woman Brings Lawsuit for Serious Injuries Caused by Birth Control Injections – Rights of Depo-Provera Victims in New York City Explained

MedMal5

At the tail end of last year, a woman who now suffers from “years of painful headaches and speech issues from brain tumors” she alleges were caused by taking the birth control injection Depo-Provera filed a lawsuit in Nevada Federal District Court. In her lawsuit against the allegedly responsible parties, drug manufacturer Pfizer and other Depo-Provera manufacturing companies, the Las Vegas woman and mother alleges that defendants knew that patients who took the shot could develop meningiomas, a type of brain tumor, but still manufactured and distributed it.

According to reports, the Depo-Provera victim’s history with the drug was that “Between 2002 and 2008, the mother received 28 shots before stopping the prescription to try for another child, she said. Two years and multiple miscarriages later, she made the decision to go back on birth control. She resumed the shots in 2011 and received one shot every three months for the next 13 years.” She ultimately received approximately 80 doses of the birth control drug. However, “In 2023, the then 49-year-old went to her physician with painful headaches, blurring vision, pain and swelling of her eyes and difficulty communicating…Her doctor ordered MRI and CT scans, leading to the discovery of three ‘densely calcified meningiomas.’” The Depo-Provera victim was told that she had a tumor behind her right eye, and she underwent a craniotomy to remove it in 2023. She also had to have radiation treatment to treat two other tumors, including one that is situated at the base of her skull. After a whopping 30 treatments, the lawsuit explains, the tumors that the woman suffers from have not shrunk to “a safe size.”

In 2024, the Depo-Provera victim discovered a social media post that linked Depo-Provera to her meningioma, and she brought the instant case.
